Opportunities for CSOs / NGOs

Like previous Conferences UNCTAD XII will actively involve civil society organizations. This involvement is taking three main forms:

  1. CSOs directly engaging with the preparatory processes and pre-conference negotiations around themes of interest to them through their lobby work with UNCTAD and delegates;
  2. CSOs accredited by UNCTAD who will have access to the official conference at the Accra International Conference Centre
  3. interested and registered CSOs participating in a pre-Conference CSO Forum in Accra
There will be two different but related moments for civil society around this conference:

  • A CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM, open to all CSOs who register for it, will take place ahead of the main conference, April 17–19th, at the Ghana National Theatre and the nearby British Council in Accra. These venues are in close proximity to each other as well as to the venue for the official conference, the Ghana International Conference Centre. The forum will provide opportunities for CSOs from all over the world to exchange analysis and strategies on their key areas of work. One of the main outcomes of the CSO Forum will be a Declaration to be formally presented to UNCTAD XII.

  • CIVIL SOCIETY SPACE in the main conference, April 20 – 25th at the Ghana International Conference Centre. This space will give accredited civil society participants opportunities to interact with government representatives attending the conference in order to share ideas, perspectives and proposals on the major themes of the conference.
  • TWN-Africa is the host NGO for the civil society events. The contact person is Kathleen Boohene who can be reached at: unctadxii-csoforum@twnafrica.org
